Shop Helper / Driver

Full Job Description

The Shop Helper/Driver supports daily construction operations by assisting with shop organization, equipment maintenance, material handling, and delivery/pick-up of tools, equipment, and construction materials to and from job sites. This position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient shop operations and ensuring timely transportation needs are met safely and professionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver and pick up construction materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to various job sites and vendors.
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe and professional manner in compliance with DOT and company policies.
  • Assist mechanics and shop personnel with basic maintenance, cleaning, and organization of equipment and tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, storage yard, and equipment areas.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely.
  • Perform routine inspections of company vehicles and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with inventory control and tracking of tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Support field crews with miscellaneous labor and operational tasks as needed.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Complete delivery logs, vehicle inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous construction, shop, warehouse, or delivery experience preferred.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
  • Ability to operate pickup trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other shop equipment preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely enter and exit company vehicles and equipment frequently throughout the workday.

Work Environment

  • Combination of shop, warehouse, yard, and active construction job site environments.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and construction equipment.
  • Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required based on operational needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check, if applicable.
  • Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
