Position Summary
The Slurry Seal Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of slurry seal and related paving equipment used in roadway preservation projects. This role supports asphalt maintenance operations by applying slurry seal materials to streets, parking lots, and other paved surfaces in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate slurry seal machines, spreaders, and related asphalt maintenance equipment
- Prepare, mix, and apply slurry seal materials according to job specifications
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections
- Monitor material flow, application rates, and surface consistency during operations
- Communicate with the foreman and crew to ensure proper coverage and quality control
- Assist with traffic control, site setup, and cleanup as needed
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report mechanical issues promptly
- Follow all OSHA, ADOT, and company safety policies
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active roadways
- Support other asphalt maintenance tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 1+ year experience in slurry seal, asphalt, or roadway construction preferred
- Experience operating paving or slurry seal equipment strongly preferred
- Valid Arizona driver’s license required
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong safety awareness and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb on equipment for extended periods
- Ability to work long hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as required
- Ability to work in heat, dust, and outdoor environments typical of Arizona construction sites
Work Environment
- On-the-job training provided in construction-specific billing practices
- Exposure to progress billing, retainage, lien waivers, and job-cost accounting
