Broom Street Sweeper Operator (CDL Required)

Job Summary

The Street Sweeper (Broom Street Scraper) Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining street sweeping equipment to clean roads, parking lots, construction sites, and public areas. The operator must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and safely operate specialized vehicles while adhering to traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate street sweeper and broom-equipped vehicles to remove dirt, debris, leaves, gravel, and other materials from roadways and designated areas.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks, including fluid levels, tire pressure, broom condition, and water systems.
  • Report mechanical issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports, and work records.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Operate equipment safely in traffic, construction zones, and pedestrian areas.
  • Assist with site cleanup and other public works or maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency cleanup situations when required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL- Class B)
  • Clean driving record and ability to meet insurability standards.
  • Knowledge of safe vehicle operation and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to perform vehicle inspections and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating street sweepers, construction equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Experience working in municipal, public works, construction, or maintenance environments.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
  • Ability to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Good vision and hearing for safe equipment operation.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor work environment with exposure to dust, noise, traffic, and weather conditions.
  • May require early morning, evening, weekend, or holiday work schedules.
  • Overtime may be required during special projects or emergency response situations.

CDL Requirement:

  • A current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required and must be maintained throughout employment. Operators must comply with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including medical certification requirements where applicable.
