Position Summary
The Slurry Seal Crew Laborer supports slurry seal and asphalt maintenance operations by assisting with surface preparation, material application, traffic control, and cleanup. This position plays a key role in ensuring slurry seal applications are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist slurry seal operators during roadway and asphalt maintenance projects
- Prepare work areas by sweeping, blowing, and cleaning pavement surfaces
- Spread materials, edge work, and assist with hand application as needed
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices (cones, signs, barricades)
- Perform flagging duties when required and properly trained
- Shovel, rake, and broom slurry materials to ensure proper coverage
- Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials and equipment
- Perform daily cleanup of job sites, tools, and equipment
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and ADOT standards
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and active roadway environments
- Support other asphalt and roadway maintenance tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
- Construction experience a plus but not required
- Basic understanding of accounting principles or coursework in accounting
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Comfortable communicating with internal teams and external customers
- Ability to follow processes and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs repeatedly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform manual labor for extended periods
- Ability to work long hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Ability to work in extreme heat, dust, noise, and outdoor conditions common to Arizona construction sites
Work Environment & Expectations
- Outdoor construction sites and active roadways
- Exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, asphalt materials, noise, and dust
- Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety vest, gloves, eye protection, and steel-toe boots
